Are the issues we face in education today a result of changes in schools over the last 100 years or a lack of change in schools over the last 100 years? Defend your response with research. The world, western cultures/countries and youth today are much different from that of a hundred years ago. However, people want to hold onto what they know and are familiar with. When parents send their children off to school they want to feel comfortable and have an expectation they understand. The world is far more complicated with technology, transportation and media adding to the mix.Parents and students complain about homework. Employers complain that workers are coming far less prepared to do the job and the cost of education is greater than ever before. Additionally, more students are classified as special education than previously. Some might argue that fewer were screened previously but part of the problem is drug babies and other environmental conditions that are affecting babies and families. There are more blended families and nuclear homes with a solid foundation of a parent there when a child comes home after school is diminishing. The notion of the ?latch-key? kid still exists and many homes utilize child care far more than at the turn of the century. The jury is out whether child care is a positive development for youth and in education. There may be the parents who neither want to nor know how to parent young children and the idea of changing a generation of those in poverty might be an asset. However, children long for attention and role modeling from a significant consistent person. Often in failing schools or poorly paid child care there is a high turnover of staff. That dynamic affects the development of children. The idea of walking down the street to the neighborhood school or getting on the bus to attend a brick and mortar school may eventually lose the value it had at one time. Many could benefit from online courses and glean the necessary insights through that media, which kids are naturally compelled to anyway. The idea of socializing kids in school has merit but there are other avenues for this that may actually be better and help develop students? natural gifts and ending up better in the long run for students, families, schools and society.I hope that gives you a jump start on your assignment.Good luckSincerely,
