Read the prompt below and discuss what activities the moms could do to maximize their babies development. A friend of yours has a three- month- old infant. She reads to her son everyday while cuddling him. She takes him for walks to the park in his stroller and plays classical music for him while he engages in tummy time. Another friend has a baby the same age and this mom holds him most of the day so that he does not cry. They spend the day snuggling and watching television at home and she talks to her baby throughout the day. Both moms love their babies and want to encourage their development. Explain what developmental skills are identified within these two situations. Discuss how the home environment influences a babys development. Three month olds can influence their child to obtain the skill of observing signs and language; they can influence the combination of sound their meaning (the bump from the knot, n.d.). Playing games helps the baby grow and play is crucial for social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skill development. Play also brings the baby closer and makes the time together that much more enjoyable. Children that do not express the range of emotional skill or typical communication skills for their age group can be early signs of delays.
A 3-month-olds hearing and vision are improved; therefore, they can be influenced with audio toys. Babies at this age turn their heads and smile at the sound of their parents voices, and they love listening to music (WebMD: Newborn & Baby, n.d.). In a natural educational setting, I would describe to the parents the areas of strength observed, such as motor, social, and emotional and so forth. However, I would also the areas I was unable to observe, which may be areas of concern. Next, I would discuss various observational assessment of the child in a natural setting where they can observe the child. Then provide information on where the child should be based on the findings. For example, if a child learns to pull up and begin to explore the environment, the child is exposed to new stimuli, which in turn should enhance more development and curiosity. The concern of the teacher is imagination, memory or its intellectual counterparts. Many theories have been proposed regarding how children come to know what they know and learn.
When a child encounters a new stimuli that does not fit into their realm of thinking, their process undergo the process of accommodation. These are new schemes that are developed to integrate the new information. If a child encounters this problem the first time, it is normal.
